Film Career Development Program 2026
The Film Career Development Program (FCDP) provides people from under-represented communities with the opportunity to gain practical, hands-on experience making a professional short film alongside experienced industry mentors.
No previous film experience is required. We are looking for people who are passionate about film, interested in building their skills, and ready to contribute to a positive, collaborative and inclusive filmmaking environment.
The program is open to individuals with varying levels of experience, from complete beginners to emerging filmmakers looking to develop their skills and make new industry connections.
Learn by Making a Film
Selected participants will work with industry professionals through the development, pre-production, production and post-production of a short film. Participants will gain practical experience while learning how a professional film production comes together.
The program will include mentorship, career development and hands-on production experience. Participants will also receive an on-screen production credit and IMDb credit for their work on the completed film.
This is a paid opportunity for selected participants.

Participants can apply for mentorship and hands-on experience in areas including:

- Directing
- Producing

- Camera / Cinematography
- Location Sound
- Editing / Post-Production
- Hair / Makeup / Wardrobe
- Props / Set Decoration
- Music / Composition
Applicants do not need professional experience in their chosen area. The purpose of the program is to provide an opportunity to learn from working professionals while developing practical skills, credits and connections.
Who Should Apply?
The FCDP is designed to help address barriers to entering and advancing in the film industry. We strongly encourage applications from people who have traditionally been under-represented in film and television, including Indigenous, Black and other racialized people, women, 2SLGBTQ+ people, people with disabilities, and others who face systemic barriers within the industry.
Applicants will be selected through a transparent and equitable process focused on identifying individuals who can benefit from the training, mentorship and professional experience offered through the program.
Most importantly, you should have a genuine interest in working in film and be ready to learn, collaborate and contribute to the production.

Successful Applicants Notified: By November 30, 2026
Mentorship & Pre-Production: December 2026–January 2027
Film Shoot: January 23, 2027
Post-Production: January–March 2027
Program Completion: March 2027
