2022 Mobile Device Filmmaking Class - Edmonton Short Film Festival

The Local Heroes Film Festival  2022 FREE Mobile Device Filmmaking Class is presented by the  Edmonton Short Film Festival in conjunction with K-Days and will take  place on Saturday, May 7th at the King’s University.. Doors open at 10:00AM for check-in. The classes are now available one time only for live stream attendance.  This educational day will prepare all novice and intermediate filmmakers for the 48 Hour Mobile Device Film Challenge on July 22 -24th. 

The first class is from 10:30AM  to 12:00PM. In this class beginning and emerging filmmakers will learn storytelling and technical techniques for shooting a two minute movie on a smart phone or tablet in under 48 hours. The seminar is instructed by award-winning filmmaker Daniel Foreman. A free hot lunch and will be served from 12:00PM to 1:00PM. Choices will include vegetarian options.

The second class will be from 1:00PM to 2:30PM. This event will break down taking your project files from being inside a mobile device to living online on YouTube. Using simple and easy to understand steps you will learn how to take footage from a mobile device to adding sound effects, music, colour grading and credits. The course will be taught by Chance Brook who is a digital content creator, video editor, and videographer.

The FREE 48 Hour Mobile Device Filmmaking Challenge will be held on July 22 to July 24. Pre-registered participants will receive preliminary information about the event and then will receive complete details on Friday, July 22 at 6:00 pm. This important email will include full contest rules and the secret elements. Registration details for the Challenge will be coming soon.

Films that meet the criteria for the Challenge will be screened at the Local Heroes K-Days Film Expo on Sunday, July 31, 2022. This special event will take place live and in person at the Edmonton Expo Centre. There will be three prizes awarded to the winning filmmakers including best film, best marketed film and best use of secret elements. These three films will screen at the Edmonton Short Film Festival and are eligible for cash prizes and screening fees.
