For 2018 the Edmonton Short Film Festival is adding a brand new component, the 360° Night on the evening of October 12. This high-tech event features 360/VR films being shown in the newly redesigned Zeider Dome Theatre at the Telus World of Science.

Because the technology is SO new, it is open to Alberta AND International filmmakers.

Submit your 360/VR film by June 30 for the early bird discount.

360° and Virtual Reality films have traditionally only been viewable on a mobile device, VR Headsets/Goggles/Glasses. There are a few small immersive 360° projection domes that help share this mind-blowing experience but … up until now … it has not been possible to share the VR/360° in a large group.

The Edmonton Short Film Festival is on the cutting edge by presenting this opportunity to Alberta audiences.  The Zeidler Dome Theatre uses Sony 4K projectors giving a meridian resolution of 10K. Theatre audio will be through a 17.1 speaker system which can be adjusted to 5.1 or 7.1 sound surround. The fixed seating in the planetarium will accommodate 200. Bean bag chairs provide additional seating for another 40 people.

The 360 degree wrap-around sound and vision in a large permanent theatre will be an amazing, unique experience. Join us on October 12 at 7:PM (doors open at 6 PM so you can grab some popcorn and drinks), Zeidler Dome Theatre, Telus World of Science, Edmonton. Tickets on sale NOW

If your 360/VR film is selected for the 360 Degree event you will need to provide the film in the highest quality possible:
A. MOV or MP4 format or as a PNG image sequence with accompanying WAV audio file.
B. Ideally 4,096 x 4,096 pixel (or higher) fisheye domemaster formatted for a hemispherical dome.
C. If your film is in equarectangular format, it must be at least 4,096 x 2,048 (or higher).
D. Our technicians will convert your equarectangular film to work in our hemispherical dome. Note the bottom one-third to one- half of your film may be cut off due to the shape of the hemispherical dome.
